FAQ Section 2.14.ADetail Instructions for Cleaning Your Home DirectoryLast updated on Thursday, 15-Feb-2001 15:00:46 ESTThese instructions are intended to help you maintain the space you occupy on the JHMI-Mail system. We ask that you periodically perform this task so as to stay within your assigned quota. User quotas are as follows: 10 MB per inbox 10 MB per personal/home directory 5 MB per personal Web pages 5 MB maximum incoming message size You have a directory called "mail", if you cd to mail, you will see a lot of old files which pushes your home quota over the limit. Here are instructions that will aid you in cleaning this directory and avoiding any problems. There are two ways to do this: Web-Based: Click here and a new browser window will open with the JHMI-Mail Clean Up Files Utility. ATTENTION: Once the box is checked you are marking the selected file for deletion! Via Telnet: To access your pine account: Go to the "Start Button" on you PC Desktop. Go to "run" Type "telnet" in the run box. You will see a box titled "Telnet - (None)" Click "Connect" Click "Remote System" Type "telnet.jhmi.edu" in the "Host Name" window. Click "Connect" Login and password are next. At the prompt type cd mail ls -l you will see the files and dates. Then type rm "filename" to remove them. You may also see folders in your pine accounts that are labeled "Sent-Mail" and others with "Sent-Mail (date)". These folders also may have old mail that has been previously sent and may be deleted. Exit You are done! Once you have reduced your inbox, you can check the size of your inbox by clicking here
