What is the right Help Desk Number?
There are currently two numbers. For problems on or involving systems on the Homewood campus call extension 6-4357 (6-HELP). For problems on any other campus call the East Baltimore Support Center on extension 5-4357 (5-HELP). In the near future these two locations will be merging their respective resources to provide a single place to call for problems. When calling please provide your name, a number where you can be reached, and as much information about the problem you are experiencing as possible.

When should I call the Help Desk?
A call to the Help Desk or Support Center should be made when you feel all other options have been exhausted and a particular service has failed to operate as expected. To help us research further please make sure to provide all of the information about a particular problem. Helpful information to us can be; the number of people affected by the problem, all locations experiencing the problem, how long the problem has been occurring, and if a particular thing can duplicate the problem.

How can I find a phone number or email address?
The Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED) contains contact information for people throughout the Hopkins Institutions.

How do I get an IP address?
For East Baltimore, the Hospital, Bayview Campus, White Marsh, and Greenspring Station you must contact your LAN Administrator. For the Homewood campus an online form is available.

How do I register a computer in DNS?
Not all computer systems need to be added to the DNS (Domain Name System) Only those systems which are providing a resource that others need to attach to, from the intranet or Internet need a name. Examples of this are web, FTP, and possibly client/server sites. Any system can receive a name after the DNS entry form is filled out and the name itself meets the naming standards. More information can be found in the Enterprise Services section on this page.
